Presentation Types

Presentations are organized by Track (see below) and Presentation Type. The Presentation Type will help you understand what kind of Presentation to expect when viewing the abstracts and/or attending the session at Exchange.

A presentation that summarizes a real-life success story about how Emerson products or services were used to upgrade a process, execute a project, solve a challenging application or other similar themes. Case studies reflect on a challenge, how the challenge was resolved and the business results achieved with the solution. 

A presentation typically from an industry or Emerson expert that aims to provide educational information on a technical subject. Presentations can range from basic fundamentals to advanced courses on a specialized topic. Examples of potential topics includes SIS, valve sizing, wireless network planning and others.

A presentation from an Emerson expert on a featured product, service or recent enhancement. Presentations will provide an in-depth technical overview of the product or service, highlight what challenges are addressed and describe what benefits can be realized from deploying the product or service. Presentations may include tips, tricks and examples of how products and services can be further utilized to help Users gain more value from their company’s investment. These sessions may also provide an opportunity to provide direct feedback to the Emerson product team.

Presentation Tracks

Measurement Instrumentation

Sessions are designed to illustrate applications of precision instruments for measuring pressure, level, temperature, flow and analytical composition of gases and liquids. Other sensing applications included are safety and reliability, machinery health and monitoring instrumentation. Additional topics may include more complicated device strategies and capabilities such as onboard analytics, diagnostics and wireless technology implementation.

Subjects May Include:

  • Best practices in selection, installation, commissioning and operation of process instrumentation
  • New technology developments in instrumentation
  • Wireless instrument installations
  • Calibration, maintenance and reliability practices
  • Use of sensors to monitor new or previously unmonitored attributes to improve work practices or performance metrics

Valves, Actuators & Regulators

Sessions are designed to illustrate solving both the common and the most challenging process control problems with the application of control valves, regulators, actuation systems, safety relief devices and systems, isolation valves, digital valve controllers and/or other valve mounted instruments.

Subjects May Include:

  • Best practices in selection, installation, commissioning and operation of control valves, safety relief devices, actuators, isolation valves and pressure regulator offerings
  • Use of new or existing Emerson mechanical products to solve severe service applications, meet environmental regulations, implement SIF Loops or support unique process control applications
  • Applications illustrating the use of digital valve controllers or wireless valve control technologies to improve process performance, reliability and safety
  • Valve, regulator and actuator diagnostic and maintenance activities including use of predictive technologies, outage planning and day-to-day repair activities

Fluid Control & Pneumatics

Sessions are designed to illustrate methods for maximizing control and efficiency of industrial equipment and OEM machinery through proper design and application of solenoids, pneumatic valves and valve systems, cylinders and actuators and air preparation devices to provide control and generate power through usage of compressed air, oil, water and gas. Additional topics may include more advanced device strategies such as optimization of air usage, mechatronic design, machine safety requirements and integrated fieldbus and diagnostic technologies.

Subjects May Include:

  • Best practices for selecting, designing and installing mechanical and fluid control systems using pneumatics (or other fluids)

Control & Safety Systems

Sessions highlight best practices in plant performance optimization, cost reductions and HSE and regulatory compliance using process control systems, machine control systems, supervisory control systems and safety instrumented systems.

  • DeltaV and Ovation applications and control strategies

Sessions highlight best practices for improving plant reliability reducing unscheduled downtime, increasing availability and reducing maintenance cost through the usage of asset management and condition indication technologies across critical production assets.

Subjects May Include:

  • Machine OEE improvement strategies

Operations & Business Management

Sessions highlight best practices to improve decision making, maximize production and optimize plant performance, system design and operations, and software applications to improve communications, collect asset data, connect to business systems and manage across the life of production assets.

Sessions highlight the applications and challenges associated with designing reliable power distribution, control power and lighting systems for hazardous environments and industrial applications. Additional topics may include understanding of electrical code requirements by world area and region and application of technology to meet new energy reduction regulations.

  • Best practices for selecting, designing and installing electrical transmission, distribution and generation systems in an operating environment
  • New technology developments (electrical systems, lighting (LED), etc.)
