The Chairman's MessageMarch, 2004 Plans for the 2004 Emerson Global Users Exchange 2004 Technical Conference are well underway. On January 17th, the call for papers was issued. Many of you have already submitted abstracts. For those of you who have not, I encourage all of our members to take advantage of this opportunity to share your successes and lessons learned with your peers. This free "Exchange" of information is what makes the Emerson Global Users Exchange a real "Users" group. The preliminary agenda for the conference has been posted on the website so that you can start making plans to attend now. The conference will be held at the Gaylord TexanTM located in Grapevine, Texas from October 25th to 29th. We had a great conference in 2003. The technology exhibits were standing room only all three nights and attendance at all the sessions was exceptional. I want to thank all of our members for making this the best technical conference ever. Approximately one hundred eighty technical papers were presented by our membership, to an audience of 1,200 people. Dave Harrold, Senior Editor of "Control Engineering" and Ron Kuhfeld, Editor in Chief of "Control Solutions International" published two very nice articles following the conference. If you have not had the opportunity to read these, they can be found on our website at www.emersonexchange.org. For 2004, we are planning some changes to better serve you, our members. We are making plans to make the contents of the papers available earlier, work harder to ensure that the technical presentations are "sales pitch" free, provide a papers cross reference, keep the Cyber Café going, and, offer some light hearted entertainment over lunch. Speaking of change, the Board of Directors has been expanded to better represent our user base. I want to take this opportunity to introduce two new members: Marty Edwards of Potlatch Corp and Phil Maderia of Genzyme, who represent the Pulp and Paper and Pharmaceutical Industries, respectively. There will be additional openings for user members and local business partners in the fall of 2004. If you are interested in serving, please see the home page under 'Board of Directors' for more information. So, make your plans for the next technical conference. It promises to be a great one!
