The Chairman's MessageOctober, 1999
Welcome to the Fisher-Rosemount Systems Users Group web page. If you're here for the first time, I hope you enjoy the experience. If you've been here before, I still hope you enjoy the experience.
Each month, I'll be posting information at this location to keep you updated on your Board of Directors' activities. The hot item for this month is the feedback from the recently completed annual meeting in Atlanta. Attendees were asked to fill out surveys addressing a number of issues. Board members also personally solicited information from many of the attendees. The point of all of this is to make membership in FRSUG more valuable to an expanding universe of users. The Board is planning a meeting in Austin on October 25 to review the Atlanta meeting and begin preparations for next year's meeting (to be held in Austin). What we already know is that attendance at the meeting continued the trend of significant growth. This year set new records for attendance by users, F-R personnel and Representatives. We intend to keep this trend moving in the same direction, since the users can obtain strength in numbers when it comes to getting our messages across to Fisher-Rosemount. Prior to the meeting on October 25, the Board welcomes any input you may have regarding past or future meetings, or any thoughts you may have regarding the Users Group in general. Elsewhere in this site is a page giving contact information for all Board members. I encourage you to put this to use. Remember, your Board exists for the purpose of representing you and your needs. This leads directly into another feature of this page. Each month I will highlight a Board member. We'll also put pictures with the profiles, so you can see for yourself what a highly professional group this is. Before I introduce this month's featured member, let me explain the Board makeup. The Board consists of thirteen members, nine of whom are users. Three each are selected to represent RS3, Provox and DeltaV users. Two members come from the Fisher-Rosemount Representative organizations. The final two members are from Fisher-Rosemount, one being the Management Sponsor and the other being the FRSUG Coordinator. The user members are elected by the general membership at the annual meetings, and typically serve 2-year terms. Occassionally members have been asked to extend their terms to fill unexpected vacancies. The Representative members are selected by the Board's user and Fisher-Rosemount members. This month the spotlight falls on Fred House of Ashland Chemical Co. Fred sits on the Board as an RS3 representative, and is serving a term covering the years 1999 and 2000. Fred has a pretty much all-inclusive job title - that of electrical/instrumentation/controls engineer in the corporate engineering department. He is based in Columbus, Ohio but travels frequently to Ashland plants on projects. His area of responsibility includes plants from here to Saudi Arabia. Fred has a BS in electrical engineering from the State University of Buffalo, and a Masters in Manfacturing Engineering from Syracuse University. He has been with Ashland since 1996, and previously worked in the pharmaceutical industry for Bristol-Meyers. Fred is an experienced RS3 user, and has been very proactive in representing the positions of RS3 users to Fisher-Rosemount. In addition, he's currently involved in the installation of a DeltaV system at Ashland's plant in Philadelphia.
Fred also has extensive knowledge of bus systems (Modbus, Modbus+, As-I, etc.) and field instrumentation, along with all that electrical stuff that us ChemE's could never master. You may contact Fred via E-mail at fwhouse@ashland.com. Once again, thanks for hitting the web site. If you attended the Atlanta meeting, my thanks also for your part in making it a great success. We'll talk again next month. In the meantime, you can contact me at ksimpson@continentalcarbon.com. Keith Simpson Chairman >> Read more from our Chairman Message Archives |
