The Chairman's Message
October, 2000
This
is the official web page of the Fisher-Rosemount Systems Users Group. If
you are a member, welcome to your web page. If you’re not a member, look
around and see what you’ve been missing. Each month we will be posting
information about the user’s group and highlight a member of the user
board of directors. The board is comprised of user representatives from
each of the Fisher-Rosemount product lines (RS3, PROVOX, and DeltaV).
Throughout the year we will be adding information to make your web page
more helpful. So don’t be bashful and tell a board
member what you want to see!
I have just received the numbers from our Austin meeting and we broke all
previous records. We had 620 in attendance. That’s an increase of 51%
from what I thought was a great meeting in Atlanta. Of that group there
were 450 of us end users. That’s a lot of customers that
Fisher-Rosemount listened to. We kicked off this year’s meeting with a
Plant Web seminar that was attended by over 135 on Sunday and concluded
Wednesday with the AMS user’s group drawing over 125. In between, we
heard Fisher-Rosemount’s direction and participated in over 80
workshops, breakout sessions, industry seminars and short courses. Our
evenings were filled with the product showcase featuring 27 complementary
suppliers and 28 DeltaV demonstration stations located throughout 30,000
ft2 of floor space. One evening we were treated to a good OLE
Texas rodeo. We all had a great time at the meetings and the rodeo wasn’t
bad either. However we’ll not discuss the cow chip tossing
contest.

But we will
show you a picture of it! |
We will have our first board meeting November 13th back in
Austin. The first item on our agenda will be to review your comments about
the Austin meeting. You were asked to fill out surveys and board members
solicited information about what you liked and did not like about our
meeting. We will review this information and begin working toward an
improved meeting next year. As we plan the agenda for New Orleans we will
strive to give you more of what you liked and correct the areas not up to
your expectations. If you were unable to get your ideas to us at the
meeting please feel free to contact me or any other board member with your
suggestions. It will be difficult to top the success of this past gala
event in Austin but if you the users tell us what you want to see and hear
we will do our best to top it.
Since
I failed to contact a board member while in Austin for this first month’s
board member highlight, I will begin by introducing myself. I am David
Montgomery. I have the privilege of being the chairman of the users group
board of directors. My formal training was from Auburn University as a
Chemical Engineer. I have been using Fisher-Rosemount products in the
process control field for the last 28 years. My away from the job
interests range from building 1/35 scale models of WWII armored fighting
vehicles to assembling full size replicas of Shelby Cobras (can’t afford
the real thing).
Upon graduation I began work with Monsanto in Decatur Alabama. Along
the way I have served short terms in Pensacola Florida and St. Louis
always migrating back to Decatur. In 1997 the chemical businesses of
Monsanto split away and became Solutia Inc. My first work assignment
began with a project installing the AC2 family of
panelboard mounted TL-101 controllers. Since then its been the full
product line ranging from a DC2 CP-212 using PROVOX
as a configuration language, to the full PROVOX family of Data
Concentrators, MUXes, IFCs, and UOCs. In 1996, I was fortunate to be
part of the original DeltaV product release. We installed DeltaV
serial number 0001-0001-0001 on a semi-works plant producing acrylic
fiber. I have seen a lot of products come and go and am very excited
at what the future holds for us in the process control field. I look
forward to hearing from you throughout the year and meeting y’all
in New Orleans next September. My e-mail address is jdmont@solutia.com.
