The Chairman's Message

March, 2000

Delivering Results!

Welcome again to the FRSUG website. As always, we’re glad you took time to check things out.

We have a theme for the 2000 Annual Meeting (Sept. 24-27 in Austin). It’s the message in the Title Block - “Delivering Results”. It is what your Board intends that the Annual Meeting do for each and every attendee.

Our belief is that the whole point of users group participation should be to add some value to the user base. If you don’t get anything of value out of a users group, then participation in that group is not a good business decision. The users group board is committed to making participation a good business decision for you.

To follow through on that commitment, we have developed an ambitious agenda for this year’s annual meeting. If you check your calendar, you’ll notice that September 24 is a Sunday, and we will have a significant number of activities on that day for those who choose to come in early. The day will begin with industry-focused seminars (expanding on the pharmaceutical and oil and gas industry meetings last year in Atlanta) and conclude in the afternoon with a “Plantweb Overview”. Sunday evening we will also have the exhibit hall open. This will include exhibits from Fisher-Rosemount, Emerson and many third party companies.

The next three days will be an aggressive combination of activities. Included in these will be Fisher-Rosemount forward direction presentations (we want to know where they’re going, right?), product/technology workshops (what’s available and users telling us how they used it), economic success stories, and short courses.

Along the way, we’ll elect a whole ‘nother group (this is Texas, you know) of board members, and take in a rodeo and barbeque.

For those with more than a passing interest, here are some of the topics we’ll be discussing. Workshops will include DeltaV advanced control, POC enhancements, buses overview, smart motors/MCC, Envox with Control Desktop, and much more. The RS3 members of the board have been conspiring in secret, but say that they’ve got an excellent set of topics for that platform.

Some of the short course topics will be AMS, advanced process control (an encore hit), batch and recipe management, bus technology and others. We’re even going to look at control room design.

We will also have people who will be telling us about their business successes employing some of the technologies we’ll be discussing. This is intended to be the kind of information that you can take back to your CFO. As I stated last month, if you have something you are willing to share with the group, please let us know by contacting your Fisher-Rosemount Systems Representative or Stacey Cloud at FRS (stacey.cloud@emersonprocess.com). You may also contact me as shown at the end of this message.

In coordination with the FRS Users Group meeting, there will also be an AMS Users Group meeting the afternoon of the 24th. FRS Users Group attendees are welcome at that meeting also.

In the meantime, this is your users group, and we’ll be glad to receive your input. Feel free to contact me or any of the other board members (click “Board of Directors” and then “Board Members” for contact info).

We look forward to seeing you in Austin. And check back here on the website for updated information on registration for the September meeting. As always, you can contact me at ksimpson@continentalcarbon.com.
